(4 photos) I watched this mighty red ant for about five minutes as it struggled to drag this flower petal across the sidewalk.
I didn’t know that ants collect flower petals. I’m pretty sure he’s not making a bouquet.
I would have offered to help, but I didn’t want to get involved.
Nonetheless, I was exceedingly impressed by his fortitude and determination. If it were me, I’d have just gone and found something a bit more manageable.
Ants are fascinating creatures in their being so determined.

If I were as strong comparatively as this guy, I’d be a super-hero.

Amazing creatures, it would be like us lifting a Volkswagon. Awesome macro!

He’s quite bulky in the back, shoulders & forearms, so that explains it!
Thanks Eliza.

I find that my pets and the creatures about me are a wonderful source of inspiration. Thanks Karen (and sorry for the slow reply… I’ve been a bit busy of late.)

Great ant pics again! Aren’t they just incredibly determined and single-minded creatures! We are fascinated by how they will travel about 30 feet, from the driveway all the way up to our kitchen windowsill to steal the squirrels’ sunflower seeds, or the husks, and then return with them to their nest. Sometimes they manage to drop a seed down a crack and some weeks later up sprouts a baby sunflower!

Who can begrudge the ants their small thefts! They’ve rightly earned it. I love it when I see a baby sunflower pop up from the seeds I’ve put out for the birds. My local creatures are some of my favorite friends. (and sorry for the slow reply… I’ve been a bit busy of late.)

The close up of the working ant is gorgeous. My favourite is probably the first one with a bit space around it and beautiful use of shallow depth of field (or maybe it’s done in post-production).

I also like the top photo, because it shows the little ant hoisting that giant flower petal off the ground. (I like the shallow depth of field too. Not done in post processing.) And then I like the last photo because it shows the little fellow making a great accomplishment.
Thanks so much Otto.
